First Stitches!

Well today started very right and turned very wrong. We met a work friend of mine at the Central Park Zoo. We were worried about rain but we got lucky. Or so we thought. Even the polar bears who normally hide were out for show.

Even the elusive snow leopard decided to give us a show. And then it all went bad. As we left to go to Sophia's gymnastics lesson, mommy told you to catch up to me. I heard you coming up behind me running and then I felt you catch my leg and trip. Then I heard an awful thud. You had fallen face forward into a park bench. Your forehead went directly into the front corner of the bench where it is sharp. And then I heard mommy scream.

I turned around and picked you up to take a look at it was just an awful cut. Very deep. Mommy gave me a soft cloth and I held it to the wound to get the bleeding to stop. After taking another look at it I knew we would need stitches. So I pressed the cloth into your wound and buried your face into my chest and we ran to the street to find a cab. We caught a cab and after a big fiasco to find a good hospital we finally made it. By this time you had stopped crying. What a brave boy. I don't think you quite knew what happened. You had a bit of a shocked look on your face. We went to the emergency room and they put a gel in your cut to kill the pain and a plastic wrap until the plastic surgeon could come.

You can see your cut in the picture below. It looks worse than it is. Some of the blood pooled at the bottom of the plastic wrap. Your real cut is that dark horizontal slit about 1 inch long right in the middle of your forehead. And it goes pretty much all the way down to the skull. Very deep.

After waiting a while the doctor came. They gave you a bit of a sedative that also helps you forget the hospital incident and then they had to wrap you up in that blue contraption. You did not like this at all. But it kept you from moving. The doctor then applied some local anaesthetic and then cut away even more skin to make a nice straight line. He then stitched this together. I'm not sure how many stitches you have but we'll count after the bandage comes off. And in a couple of days they come off. After we got home you took a big nap. That was quite an ordeal.
